Place your cursor in the text and right-click. Select Insert Footnote and type your footnote text. A reference number is placed in the text and your footnote appears at the bottom of the text frame. If created in the latest version of InDesign, your footnote will span all columns of a text frame automatically.
Can the footnote number format be changed like the endnote number format can?
To change the formatting of the footnote numbers, select the Footnotes Reference Style. If you want to change the formatting of the footnote text at the bottom of the page, select the Footnote Text Style. Click Modify, and then change the formatting options (font, size, and so on).
How do I edit a footer in InDesign?
Footers are usually on master pages. Go to the master page, select the footer, and change it. If you want to change it on just one page and you enjoy living dangerously, you can hold Ctrl-Shift and click on it on that one page, and then modify it. Or you can ask the author of the original document to modify it for you.
